Busy Weekend

Fall time in New England is full of cool stuff, wait what am I saying, basically every season except for winter is full of cool stuff. Anyways, to get everything in you have to pretty much double up on activities every weekend in order to take it all in.

This past weekend we went to a cranberry harvest celebration. Have you ever seen the Ocean Spray commercials where the people are wearing their waders in the huge masses of cranberries- well that scene is real. Isn't this crazy! The workers round up all the cranberries from the bog with ropes and coral them into those 4 posts. There is then a vacuum underneath that pulls the berries down, through some tubes, up a conveyor belt and into a truck. It's was surprising pretty neat to watch.

This following picture will have to count as a 38 week pregnant picture since I don't really document weekly pictures. But fyi- that is how pregnant I am here.
I'm not exactly sure where it is from, but there was a HUGE dirt pile for people to play on. Justin and Emily climbed all the way to the top and then ran down. Pretty simple entertainment. I think Justin was reminded that he isn't quite as young and agile as he use to be.

They had a little station where you could make a "bog in a cup." It gave directions for how to keep it alive through the winter. I think we're (Justin) is going to give it a try.

The Ocean Spray exhibit had a little "bog" for the kids to play in. I love how easily entertained kids are, because they could have played in these cranberries forever.
Here are all of the kids we were with. Well kids and Bob :). I love afternoon outings with friends! They are so relaxing and fun.
After the cranberry festival we headed down to a zoo in Rhode Island that holds a Pumpkin Spectacular every year. There are thousands of pumpkins really interestingly carved and displayed. We took a couple of pictures, but you can't use a flash and I just used my phone, so the quality isn't the best. However, you can get a sense for how incredible the carving was. Sadly I didn't take any pictures of the HUGE pumpkins which were the neatest. I don't really know what I was thinking. Anyways, here's a couple.
After the pumpkin festival we went out to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. A lovely ending to a crazy day.

Monday was Columbus Day. Our town does an annual "Belmont Serves" service day every Columbus day. We missed it last year, but thought it would be fun to go do this year. We signed up to collect food for the local food pantry. It was really fun to go door to door and talk to people. Emily thought it was really fun too. It is nice to have her old enough to somewhat explain that we are doing something to help other people.
We had actually planned on going apple picking/pumpkin patch/corn maze after the activity. However, we got home and all fell asleep. Maybe we'll do that next weekend.

Sadly, even with all of these activities our little Nemo decided she didn't want to come join us. Maybe that will happen next weekend too.
