This Girl Just Wants to have Fun!

Life has been all fun for this little girl lately. Today we spent a few hours down in Laguna beach enjoying the beautiful sunshine. Emily has a lot of fun playing (and trying to eat) in the sand and playing at the playground.

Another source of fun is going to the park. We went several times this week. It is just so nice to spend time outside! We need to enjoy it while we are here, I don't think the sun shines as much in March in Boston.

Playing Catch Up- Mom, Dad, Aaron, & Grandma Alice visit

Two weekends ago My mom, dad, Aaron, and Grandma Alice came to California to visit all of us!! We had SO much fun! It was one of those weekends where we did a lot of stuff, but didn't take the camera out at all of the adventures. Here are some pictures from a few of our adventures.

Long Beach Aquarium: (Thanks again Grandma, it was so much fun!!)
Me and Justin hanging out on the lifeguard chair.
The fam in a little play boat

Can you find Nemo??

Emily petting little sharks!

Emily trying to play with the big starfish!

West Coast Choppers facility: Here is where they make lots of sweet motorcycles. I'm sure you've heard of them. Anyways, we thought the showroom might be a little more interesting, but we found ways to make it fun!
Me and Emily by the "Gold digger" bike. I'm teaching her valuable lessons early on in life. (jk)
Mom and Dad by this gate with the sweet logo on it
Doing the Karate Kid move while balancing on random poles. Pretty talented boys.

We also had a bonfire and made smores, played some fun games, and Emily got to go on lots of walks with her Grandma and Grandpa. Thanks for coming guys, we had a lot of fun!!

So Big! So Much Fun!

There a place in town, Jump 'n Shout, where kids can come and play a couple hours a week. There are inflatable slides, bounce houses, trampolines, mats, and toys. Emily loves it. Below are pictures of her climbing up the biggest slide by herself for the first time. She climbed all the way up and slid down. She's getting bigger and more adventurous every day!

**sidenote** a lady that is in our ward taught me to teach emily to go down on slides on her belly feet first. It is so nice because she can go on most slides without any help. Amazing.

Going For A Hike

I recently started teaching piano lessons which means Emily and Justin get to spend several hours together a couple times a week. Justin started taking Emily on walks up this little trail behind the house. They take Shilow and have a good time. I have been with them a couple times and it really is a good time. Emily goes through phases on whether she wants to be on shoulders or walking by herself. She walks quite slow so we try to encourage shoulders, but you know sometimes 1 yr. olds are very persistent. When Shilow takes off Emily yells for her saying "ILOW!! ILOW!!" and waves her finger for her. It is so cute. Anyways, just another fun little activity the Van Dusen family enjoys :)

Swimming in the Buff

The other day we were all playing in the backyard and Emily REALLY wanted to go in the pool. Well- come on it's March we are not going swimming. It is freezing. No matter how much we told her no, or tried to distract her, so kept wanting to get in. So, to prove to her she didn't want to go in we stripped her down and let her play on the steps. She actually stood on the top steps for a few minutes but had the most fun kicking and splashing.

Well the plan WORKED. After only a few minutes Emily was completely over the pool. She wasn't done playing "free-style" though, so we let her run around for a while. Baby's will be baby's and wow- they are fun!

Pay It Forward

Here's how it works:

The first five people to respond to this post will get something made by me. Made with lots of love just for you! I have no idea what it will be yet and I hope it doesn't take me too long to get it to you, but it could be really cool! We'll see.

The catch?

You must re-post this on YOUR blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on your blog. The first 5 people to do so and leave a comment telling me they did win something from me!

I have a question for all of you bloggers. How do you make it so on the side bar, under your friends, it tells you the last time they updated?

Happy Birthday Kathy

We are a couple of days late on this one, but HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATHY!! Kathy's (Justin's mom) birthday was Saturday, March 7! We went out to dinner at Dominico's (a delicious Italian restaurant in Long Beach) to celebrate. It was delicious.

Anyways, we love Kathy! She is a fantastic Grandma, mom, and mother in law. She is a wonderful nurse and has used her talents/skills/knowledge to bless many lives. She also makes the cutest cards, scrapbook pages, and quilts. We have really loved living here and getting to know her better! Below are a few fun pictures!!

Thanks for all that you do for us!

Happy Birthday Dad!

Today is my dad's birthday. Yay!! I was tempted to title this post "Macho Man" since well that basically sums him up, but decided to go with Happy Birthday instead. I talk to my dad a lot and tell him I love him all the time, but here is my official blog post to tell the world how amazing he is. He is the best dad in the world. Literally. He is a fantastic example to his children in all aspects of life: church, education, work ethic, family relations, recreational activities, you name it- he's a pro. I love visiting him because it typically means a trip to north mountain to work out, a golf lesson, rib eyes, and a fantastic babysitter. Emily loves to visit him because it means lots of loving, playing with the ducks, and usually getting a new (or multiple new) stuffed animals. Here are just few bullet points of life with my dad:

  • When I was nine I hiked the grand canyon for the first time. It was getting later in the afternoon and I was getting sluggish. My dad told me that the ice cream shop at the top closed at 4 and if I wanted an ice cream cone I needed to walk a little faster. We made it out by 4.
  • When I was younger (probably 8-12) I would run in saturday morning fun runs. Sometimes one mile, usually 5k. My dad would let me wear these sweet Oakley's that were twice the size of my face. I usually won my age group and I thought I was so cool walking up to get my award with those things on. I'm sure he thought I was pretty cool too.
  • Before I was pregnant with Emily he called me and told me he had a perfect idea. I could have a baby and then he and my mom would raise her until I was done with school.
  • He is an expert woodworker, cyclist, exercise enthusiast, golfer, and grills the world's best rib eye.
  • He can do more pull ups than I can count.
  • Look up awesome in the dictionary, here's what you'll find: Shawn Pobst.
Happy Birthday Dad. I love you!!
